Excursion to Sighnaghi and Telavi

The first stop of our excursion will be Sighnaghi - the city of Love. Sighnaghi is a small town in eastern Georgia, on a mountain slope, in the historical region of Kakheti. The center of the historical and geographical region of Kiziki. Situated on terraces connected by winding steep streets. Next we will go to the estate of Alexander Chavchavadze - Tsinandali. The father of Alexander Chavchavadze, the first owner of the estate - Garsevan Chavchavadze was one of the initiators of Georgia's annexation to Russia, his signature is under the Treaty of Georgievsk. He took part in the war with Napoleon and in the campaigns in Europe in 1812, 1813 and 1814. He took Paris and rose to the rank of lieutenant general. Having seen Europe and tired of military campaigns, Alexander Chavchavadze decides to leave the capital. He takes his family from St. Petersburg and moves to the inconspicuous and quiet village of Tsinandali, where he begins to implement the project of Europeanization of Georgia.
The estate in Tsinandali is a reflection of his aspirations. He did not limit himself to introducing European architectural techniques in construction and interior planning, having laid out an English garden around the palace. Moreover, not only trees but also gardeners were brought from Great Britain. Not stopping there, Chavchavadze invites the best winemakers from Europe, together with whom he builds the first wine factory using European technology. This is how the famous wine "Tsinandali" appeared today.
