Itinerary and details
Route: TBILISI - MTSKHETA (JVARI - SVETITSKHOVELI)
At different times, the capital of Georgia was either Tbilisi or Mtskheta. You cannot truly know the country without visiting these places.
Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia, which has absorbed so many epochs and cultures that even the locals do not know all the secrets and mysteries that are hidden in the labyrinths of this warm and beautiful city. Beautiful carved balconies, unique courtyards, famous Tbilisi yards – these are all features that make the city famous.
"Not long ago,
Where, merging, they make a noise,
Embraced like two sisters,
The streams of the Aragvi and the Kura,
There was a monastery."
These famous lines were written by M.Yu. Lermontov about the cross monastery – Jvari, our first stop. Jvari is a 7th-century cross monastery.
Next, we will head to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, and visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where, according to tradition, many Orthodox relics are kept, such as: the chiton of Christ, the mantle of the Prophet Elijah, and the heel of St. Andrew the First-Called.
